Welcome to the JEOPARDY website

JEOPARDY are a four piece band based in Sydney Australia.

We have been writing and playing music together in various incarnations for many years.

JEOPARDY is a musical vehicle within which the four of us travel, on a journey of learning, exploration, examination and questioning.

JEOPARDY is inimitable to our outlook on life, and how we choose to live our lives.  It provides an outlet and point of convergence for our  principal passions - music and artistic self expression.  We have co-opted various media and expressive forms in order to purposefully and creatively examine and challenge what we see going on around us.

And what we see going on around us, drives us.

Why "JEOPARDY"?

Legal use aside, jeopardy strictly defined means:

"danger, at risk of severe loss or harm".

We adopted the word as our band name and its meaning in the above sense as our guiding philosophy.  It neatly encapsulates  our collective belief that the human race and more importantly the planet itself - today faces a crisis point.  This crisis, this state of jeopardy, is evidenced by a reckless global addiction to politics, consumerism, self absorption, cult of celebrity and greed.

These things combine to critically affect the direction of human 'civilization' and enterprise.  These things combine even more critically to destroy our fragile balance of life and our ecosystems.

Surrounded by suffocating legislation, overwhelmed by information, we live in a global state of fear.

This state of fear is perpetuated by a fast food franchise style of global media, and reinforced  through systems of political control based upon distrust.

It is a true dystopia.

The bottom line: the  human race has become a self consuming virus upon the planet.

JEOPARDY acknowledge that we don't have all the answers, don't hold ourselves up as heroes or saviours, nor wish to profit from doomsday cultism and nihilistic pessimism. We merely hold up a mirror to the world and through our music seek to guide and enlighten.

Is it really that bad?

That all being said: we are optimistic.

Look hard enough and you will see around you a world of ingenuity, compassion and the required information upon which we can base change.

The entire human race has the capacity to move towards more purposeful, peaceful and respectful ends, rather than the war ridden, poverty stricken, prime time media packaged ugly reality that faces us now.

So, go take a picture, write a poem, start a band, write a blog.  Enlist to fight in the culture wars!

Talk to someone you don't know about how you think, how you feel, what you see.  Debate the evidence. Question the status quo.

Yes, we're in jeopardy, but it's not over yet.

They only want bread but they're

force fed cake

Do U2 and Madonna really need to release another album - and continue saying nothing and absorbing and obscene amount of resources in process?

Whatever happened to music and the 'pop' song being about a cultural exchange of ideas?

Sure, we could do the usual and  sing inane pap and radio fodder, as a willing slave to the disposable consumerist  society we exist in.  We could be part of 'big entertainment' and a music industry whose eyes have become far too big for their collective belly's. An industry that now looks to fight its increasing irrelevance by becoming more adept at litigation, than facilitating people accessing and enjoying  the diversity and creativity of others.

Running the risk of being seen to be bit too post-modern, and possibly being audacious in eschewing an industry that doesn't even know us let alone be part of, we decided to build this site to share our music, creativity, ideas and information.

It's yours to look at and consume at your leisure.

Enjoy.

And THINK.
